Thailand’s exports projected to grow 5% in 2014

BANGKOK, December 21 (TNA) - The Ministry of Commerce has projected that Thailand's exports should sustain a growth of some 5 per cent next year, earning the Kingdom about 240 billion US dollars. Nuntawan Sakuntanaga, Director-General of the ministry's Department of International Trade Promotion, expressed the optimism after her talks with industrialists in Bangkok on Friday (Dec 20). Nuntawan noted that the projected Thai export growth in 2014 could be achieved, thanks to recovering global economies, especially those of Thailand’s key trading partners including the United States, Europe, Japan and China. According to the senior official, Thailand’s goods which are in great demand on overseas markets include vehicles and spare parts, electronic and electrical appliances, as well as textiles. The senior official expressed her hope, however, that Thailand’s ongoing political protests would end soon, acknowledging that Thai exports in 2013 are expected to grow only about 0.5 per cent due to the domestic political strife.
