UNICEF hails Thailand’s policies on women and child development

BANGKOK, August 4 (TNA) - The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has hailed Thailand’s policies and efforts to promote women and child development. The UNICEF words of praise came after UNICEF Deputy Executive Director Yoka Brandt held talks with Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra in Bangkok on Saturday to discuss UN agency's assistance programs for Thai children and women, as well as the underprivileged. Suranand Vejjajiva, secretary-general to the Thai prime minister, told reporters after the talks that Yoka has lauded Thailand's impressive progress in implementing development programs for women, children and the underprivileged. Suranand said the UNICEF deputy executive director has also viewed that the Thai government's policies, namely the Women’s Empowerment Fund and the One Tablet Per Child provide needed assistance for women and educate development in the country. According to the Thai premier's secretary-general, Premier Yingluck has, meanwhile, accepted the UNICEF's invitation to attend the United Nations General Assembly annual meeting in New York in September, during which she plans to further learn about UNICEF’s women and child development programs.
