Iran's 1st VP Underlines Desertification Control

Tehran, Dec 1, IRNA – Iran's 1st VP Mohammad-Reza Rahimi said on Saturday that measures should be taken to prevent degradation of environment by desertification control to ensure sustainable development. Addressing a group of officials in charge of sustainable development of the desert areas, he called for plantation efforts in the area to upgrade the environment, the prerequisite for economic development. Rahimi said 64 percent of Iran's land is dry. He said remarkable measures have been taken by the 9th government for the purpose. He did not elaborate./end
