2,000 illegal foreign citizens arrested in East Azarbaijan province

Tabriz, July 30, IRNA – East Azarbaijan Province Police Chief Colonel Mohsen Hassankhani said here on Thursday that 2,000 foreign citizens who had arrived in Iran illegally were identified and arrested in that province within the past four months. Rejecting some broadcasted news indicating that the arrested foreign citizens in East Azarbaijan province were on their way to join the Takfiri Daesh terrorists when they were arrested in that province, Colonel Hassankhani said in a press conference that the people's peace of mind should not be disturbed by broadcasting such baseless, false news. 'Iran's East Azarbaijan province is among the country's safest provinces and the arrested illegal foreign citizens are mostly from Afghanistan and Pakistan, who had come to East Azarbaijan seeking jobs, or those who intended to travel through this province to other countries in pursuit of appropriate jobs. Noting that among the arrested individuals there are also women and children, Colonel Hassankhani said that they have all been handed over to concerned judiciary officials.
