482 Kgs Of Narcotics Discovered, Confiscated In Jask, Hormozgan

Jask, Hormozgan Prov, Sept 25, IRNA – Disciplinary force commender of Jask, a city in Hormozgan Province, said here Monday evening 482 kilograms of various types of narcotics, including Opium, has been discovered and confiscated from two vehicles. General Jahanshir Javadi added in an interview with IRNA here Monday evening, “Diciplinary officers of Jask Township’s Ani-Narcotics Police while patrolling in their supervisoion area in transport axes around this township Monday morning encountered a suspicious caravan and ordered the drivers to stop.” He added, “While inspecting their vehicles, which led to armed encounter with the smugglers, the police forces manged to disarm them and confiscate this amount of narcotics. General Javadizadeh reiterated, “In the course of the encounter one smuggler was arrested and two Peugeot passenger vehicles belonging to the smugglers were confiscated as well. The disciplinary force commander noted that the armed encounter fortunately had no casualties, or material losses, and the culprit, the confiscated narcotics and the cars were delivered to the disciplinary officials. Iran, located at the crossroad of international drug smuggling from Afghanistan to Europe leads international efforts in fighting drug networks and narcotic traffickers. According to the statistical figures released by the UN, Iran ranks first among the world countries in preventing entry of drugs and decreasing demand for narcotics. The anti-drug squads of the Iranian Law Enforcement Police have intensified their countrywide campaign against drug-trafficking through staging long-term systematic operations since last year. The Iranian police measures along the country's Eastern borders have forced drug-traffickers to resort to other routes, including the Sea of Oman and the Persian Gulf, to smuggle their drug cargoes which originate in Afghanistan and Pakistan./end
