4m Tourists Visited Iran Last Year

Tehran, July 2, IRNA – Head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO) Manouchehr Jahanian said here Monday over four million foreign tourists have visited the country during the past Iranian calendar year endin on March 20, 2013. Jahanian made the remarks in the second tourism meeting of the Group of Eight Developing Countries (D8) currently underway in Tehran. He noted eight million dollars in revenue was made from incoming tourists during the last Iranian year. Thanks to Iranˈs unique civilization, abundant historical monuments and natural sight seeing, the country enjoys highest potentials in terms of hosting foreign tourists. The second tourism meeting of D8 opened in Tehran on Monday. The D8 is composed of eight Islamic developing countries namely Nigeria, Egypt, Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia and Bangladesh. D8 whose permanent secretariat is in Istanbul, seeks to establish economic ties among developing Muslim countries, promote their presence on international markets and encourage talks with industrial countries. As an extra-regional treaty, D8 covers a vast area from eastern Asia to western Africa./end
