Aviation services resumed at Thailand's Suvarnabhumi Airport, following brief suspension

BANGKOK, July 6 (TNA) - Aviation services have been resumed on the western runway of Thailand's main Suvarnabhumi International Airport following a brief suspension of flights last night, caused by a land subsidence problem. Somchai Sawasdipol, Director of the Suvarnabhumi International Airport, confirmed on Friday that inbound and outbound flights can now land and take off at the national international airport, as repairers were called in and it took them only about 15 minutes to fix the problem, which occurred at about 8pm. Somchai said that the land subsidence caused a hole with the depth of approximately 5 centimetres and the area has been on a constant maintenance, acknowledging that 11 flights had to divert landing to either the Don Muang airport in Bangkok, the U-Tapao military airport in the eastern Chonburi Province or the Chiang Mai airport in the North. Meanwhile, the Suvarnabhumi International Airport's eastern runway has remained shut for normal maintenance purposes, set from June 11– August 9, 2012. (TNA)
