Belgian far-right party seeks headscarf ban on drivers

Tehran, Jan 19, IRNA -- The far-right anti-Islam Flemish Interest Party in Belgium has forwarded a bill to Parliament forbidding women with headscarves from driving vehicles. The bill, presented by the Flemish Interest Party’s former president Filip Dewinter on Friday, states that wearing a headscarf 'reduces a driver’s ability to see and hear while driving', the World Bulletin reported. Dewinters argued that, as it is forbidden for drivers to talk or text on the phone and to eat food while driving under safety measures, it should also be forbidden to wear the headscarf, which restricts drivers' vision to the side. The Leader of the Dutch far-right Freedom Party, Geert Wilders, previously attempted to ban women with headscarves from driving vehicles for similar reasons, but failed to achieve any results. According to traffic experts, wearing a headscarf does not pose any risk to drivers
