Cabinet approves withdrawal of Thai troops from Darfur

PHUKET, March 20 (TNA) - The Thai Cabinet has approved the withdrawal of the 980 Thai-Darfur Task Force participating in the United Nations-African Union peacekeeping mission in Darfur, western Sudan. Speaking to journalists after the Cabinet mobile meeting in the southern resort Phuket province Tuesday, Acting Government Spokesman Anusorn Iamsa-ad said that the Thai Cabinet has asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence to discuss with the UN an appropriate timeframe for the withdrawal of Thai troops from Darfur. If possible, the acting government spokesman acknowledged, the Thai Cabinet would like to see the withdrawn of Thai troops from the western Sudanese region by next month. (TNA)
