Ceremony held to mark 15th Anniversary of Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge
TAK, THAILAND, August 15 (TNA) - The governors of Tak and Myawaddy, along with 1,000 Buddhist devotees of both Thailand and Myanmar joined an alms making ceremony of 99 Thai and Myanmar Buddhist monks in celebration of the 15th anniversary of the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge Wednesday morning.
Tak Governor Suriya Prasartbundit said at present the Thai-Myanmar Friendship bridge links Thailand with Myanmar, through Myawaddy all the way to Yunnan of China.
He further noted that the bridge does not only serve as the road for transportation but also as a bridge that links the hearts of the people of Thailand and Myanmar together, because it is the shortest passage between Thailand and Myanmar's old capital city of Yangon.
For his part, Myawaddy Governor U Mynt Tihn congratulated Thailand for the successful ceremony. He added that the bridge symbolises cooperation between the two neighbours and would create unity which would lead to a long lasting friendship between the two, as well as a stronger ASEAN Community in the near future.
