Darwin Mayor Visits Ambon
Ambon, Maluku, Sept 7 (ANTARA) - Katrina Fong Lim, the mayor of Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia, is on a visit to Ambon, Maluku province, from September 5-8, in response to Ambon Mayor Richard Louhenapessy`s official trip to Darwin in July.
"Ambon and Darwin have been part of a sister city cooperation agreement since 1976," Ambon Deputy Mayor Sam Latuconsina said here on Wednesday.
Mayor Lim is scheduled to attend a celebration of the 437th anniversary of Ambon City on September 7.
"On Thursday (September 6), Mayor Lim will deliver a speech during a special plenary session at the Ambon Legislative Council (DPRD) ahead of the Ambon city anniversary celebrations," Sam stated.
"She will also pay tribute to fallen heroes at the Commonwealth War Cemetery at Tantui, Sirimau, and will visit Tugu Dolan, Kudamati and Siwalima Museum in Air Salobar, Nusaniwe sub-district," he added.
"The war cemetery is a proof of the historical link between Darwin and Ambon. Therefore, the two cities became sister cities," Sam noted.
He expressed hope that Lims visit would further strengthening the two cities` relations and help promote Ambon as a safe place for tourists.
During her stay in Ambon, Lim will also visit a state high school, meet agriculture officials and make trips to several tourist spots.
