DPM, army chief visit Thai far South

BANGKOK, October 24 (TNA) - Deputy Prime Minister General Yuthasak Sasiprapa and Army Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha are visiting the violence-plagued Thai far South Wednesday to meet Muslim leaders and students and to boost morale support to local security officers, as assigned by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. Accompanied by Assistant National Police Chief Police Lieutenant General Peera Pumpichet, General Yuthasak and General Prayuth called a meeting with chiefs of local security units and relevant agencies upon their arrival in Pattani province Wednesday morning. General Prayuth suggested that attackers in the Thai deep South have to be controlled through searches, checkpoints and good intelligence, acknowledging that the prime minister plans to discuss southern solutions with concerned parties next week, before issuing additional orders. The army commander-in-chief also urged affected parties in a fatal crackdown in Tak Bai district of nearby Narathiwat province to forgive, as it had happened eight years ago and compensation had been done, saying what matters is to prevent any repetition of such the incident.
