Five Countries Confirm Participation In Dragon Boat Festival

Padang, West Sumatra, Aug 20 (Antara) - As many as five countries have confirmed their participation in the Padang International Dragon Boat Festival 2014 in West Sumatra, noted an official. "Malaysia, Cambodia, Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, and Singapore have confirmed that they will participate in the dragon boat festival on August 21-24, 2014," Suardi, the local youth affairs and sports department spokesman remarked here on Wednesday. He stated that the confirmation was based on the organizing committee`s list of athletes from five countries participating in the event, which is being organized to commemorate the 345th anniversary of Padang city. Suardi explained that besides the participants from foreign countries, numerous domestic teams have also registered to participate in the event. "There are 21 teams from outside West Sumatra, such as from Medan, Jakarta, Jambi, and Riau, which will participate in the dragon boat festival," he added.
