Flooding hits southern Thailand

TRANG, Nov 24 (TNA) - Several southern Thailand provinces have been hit by flooding as rain continues. Three flood-related deaths were recorded in Trang where flooding has extended to cover six districts, declared disaster zones and about 10,000 local residents have been affected so far. A portion of Trang-Phatthalung road has been under water while officials are working to drain water from the road. In Prachuap Khiri Khan, incessant rain triggered forest run-off from Tanaosri mountain ranger to flow to the Muang Prachuap Khiri Khan municipality. Some roads are under 50-70 centimetre-deep of water. A local community has been flooded for the seventh time in three months. The mayor of the Muang Prachuap Khiri municipality Kraingkrai Kraithong said the flood water could rise more due to continuous rain. In Surat Thani, forest run-off hit three districts, affecting more than 2,000 households. The Phra Borommathat Chaiya temple has been flooded and the flood, if prolonged might cause damage to the pagoda, housing the Buddha relics. (TNA)
