Indonesian DVI Team To Help Malaysia: Police Chief
Jakarta, July 21 (Antara) - The National Police`s Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team members will work in tandem with the Indonesian Foreign Ministry to assist Malaysia in identifying the MH17 crash victims, a police officer stated here on Monday.
"Seven members of the National Police`s DVI team will join the mission to help identify the victims of the Malaysian Airlines aircraft crash," National Police Chief General Sutarman remarked.
Speaking to journalists here after chairing a security program called "Operation Ketupat," he noted that among the victims who will be identified by the DVI team were 12 Indonesians on board the ill-fated MH17.
The police`s DVI team and several provincial police personnel had conducted an ante-mortem examination by collecting data from the victims` family members, he added.
The Indonesian police`s DVI team members have garnered global recognition as they successfully identifying the victims of Russian Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft, which crashed on Mount Salak in West Java several years ago, Sutarman emphasized.
The Malaysian Airlines` commercial jet, carrying 298 people aboard, crashed over Ukraine last Thursday after being hit by a missile. All passengers and crew members on board were killed.
