Injured Thai workers in Israel are now safe: Authority
BANGKOK, March 12 (TNA) - The Ministry of Labour has announced that four Thai workers who were wounded in a rocket attack in Israel last Saturday are all now safe, including the one who was seriously injured.
Prawit Kiangphon, Director-General of the ministry's Department of Employment, confirmed the update Monday. A total of four Thai workers were injured last Saturday after a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip hit a farm in Ein Habesor City where they were working at. Mhee Wongsuwan, one of the four Thai workers, suffered serious shrapnel injuries on his face and stomach.
Prawit acknowledged that the other three slightly-injured Thai workers have already been discharged from hospital and could now return to work, and that officials at Thailand's office of labour affairs in Tel-Aviv have been sent to take care of all the injured Thai workers.
According to the department of employment’s director general, the Thai workers' employer has promised to take responsibility for all their medical bills and the injured Thai workers are also eligible for support granted by the government-run Fund for Thai Workers Seeking Job Overseas.
There are currently some 20,000 Thai workers working in Israel and the Department of Employment is sending another batch of about 5,000 Thai nationals to work in the Middle East country next month, through a government-to-government (G-to-G agreement). (TNA)
