Iran President to attend 50th anniversary of OAU

Tehran, May 21, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is to attend ceremonies commemorating the 50th anniversary of formation of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) to be held in Ethiopia, it was announced here Tuesday. Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Araqchi made the announcement while talking to reporters at his weekly press briefing. The Islamic Republic of Iran, as an observer member of the African Union, usually takes part in the Unionˈs summit meetings, said Araqchi. Araqchi further said the year 2013 marks the 50th anniversary of the OAU establishment. The Iranian diplomat reiterated that the organization is the symbol of independence in the African continenet.
