Iran-Russia Reach Primary Agreement On Building 2 More Nuclear Power Plants
Tehran, March 12, IRNA – Iran and Russia have reached a primary agreement for building two more nuclear power plants in Iran, spokesman of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi said on Wednesday.
Commenting on AEOI’s Tuesday talks with officials of the Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom) in Tehran, he said the talks resulted in a draft protocol on promotion of Iran-Russia nuclear cooperation based on the previous agreement in 1992.
The primary agreement is to be endorsed by AEOI president Ali Akbar Salehi and Head of the Rosatom Sergei Kiriyenko, said the spokesman.
Rosatom is a state corporation (non-profit organization) in Russia, established in 2007, which acts as the regulatory body of the Russian nuclear complex.
Kiriyenko arrived in Tehran on March 11 heading a delegation to discuss building of the two new nuclear power plants with the Iranian officials.
According to Kamalvandi, the technical and commercial conditions for building of the two power plants will soon be discussed by the Iranian and Russian officials./end
