Mass merit making events for late King Bhumibol set on Oct 13

BANGKOK, October 11 (TNA) - The Thai government will organize mass merit making events and other activities to pay tribute to and in remembrance of late King Bhumibol Adulyadej in Bangkok on October 13. Assistant Government Spokeswoman Colonel Thaksada Sangkhachan told journalists that the scheduled merit making events and other activities are in compliance with the Royal Agenda set by the Bureau of the Royal Household. The assistant spokeswoman stated that the coming Saturday's events will be started with a mass alms offering to Buddhist Monks at the Royal Plaza during 5:30-7am, in which Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha and his spouse will lead other Thai Cabinet members and their spouses to participate to pay tribute to the late and beloved Thai monarch. The assistant spokesperson said that during 8:45-9am, there will then be a wreath laying event in remembrance of the late and revered King Rama IX the Great at Saman Luang ceremonial ground near the Grand Palace, where a mass candle lighting gathering and a 89-second silence, presided by the prime minister and his spouse and joined by his Cabinet members and their spouses and other people from all walks of life, will also be organized during 6-6:45pm to express a public loyalty and remembrance of the late King Rama IX the Great. According to the assistant spokesperson, the male white uniform and the female yellow-toned Chitlada or Amarin traditional Thai costumes are set for the participating government and state personnel in the coming Saturday's events and activities. Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej passed away at Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital on October 13, 2016 at the age of 89 years old. (TNA)
