Over 30 illegal Myanmar migrants nabbed in Thai South
NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, THAILAND,, February 11 (TNA) - Local authorities have caught 31 illegal Myanmar migrants while they were traveling by a train heading to the Thai far South to cross the border to work in neighbouring Malaysia.
The 31 illegal Myanmar migrants were arrested by local immigration and police officers when their train, leaving from Bangkok for Narathiwat Province's Su-ngai Kolok area bordering Malaysia, arrived at Tung Song station in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province in the Thai South on early Wednesday morning.
The 31 Myanmar nationals have then been detained and charged with illegal entry into Thailand, after the Thai authorities did not find any legal travel documents with them.
According to an initial investigation, there were about 60 illegal Myanmar migrants aboard the train, after a Thai broker bought them tickets from Bang Bamru train station in Bangkok for their long-haul travel to Sungai Kolok.
The initial probe also found that there would be another broker to receive all the Myanmar migrant workers if they arrived in Malaysia. (TNA)
