Quadrilateral Meeting Held By 4 Major Asian News Agencies In Jakarta

Jakarta, Dec 15, IRNA – A quadrilateral meeting attended by ranking officials of four major Asian news agencies (IRNA, ANTARA, BERNAMA and Kyodo) was held here Friday to discuss ways to establish joint news database networks. The meeting was held on the sidelines of a ceremony to commemorate the 75th anniversary of ANTARA's establishment. It was attended by Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) Acting Managing Director Gholam-Hossein Eslamifar, Managing Director of Indonesia ANTARA News Agency Seiful Hadi, officials of Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA) as well as those of the Japanese Kyodo World News Service. Participants of the meeting agreed to pave the way for reporters and photojournalists of Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia and Japan to work in each other's countries in turn and hold joint photo exhibitions. They also agreed to share professional experiences between news staff of the four countries. During the meeting, the acting chief of IRNA called for establishment of an IRNA office in Jakarta. Eslamifard aslo said IRNA would facilitate presence of ANTARA reporters to Tehran for directly covering news events from the Iranian capital. Earlier in the day, officials of the Iranian and Indonesian news agencies (Eslamifar and Seiful Hadi) added an amendment to a previous agreement which was signed between the two sides in 2006. The amendment stressed the need for IRNA-ANTARA cooperation in the fields of training, technical and marketing activities./end
