Schools in Thai far South start new semester amid tight security

YALA, THAILAND, May 14 (TNA) - Part of schools in the Thai deep South opened for the new semester Monday, amid tight security. The "back to school" atmosphere at several schools in Yala province's Muang district, for instance, was active Monday morning, as parents took their children to schools; while local security officers and village volunteers were deployed along main routes, as well as inside and surrounding schools to maintain order and provide safety to both the students and teachers. Other schools are scheduled to kick start the new semester on May 16, as the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC), Region 4, has instructed all local agencies concerned to strictly implement security measures to protect school personnel and students, as agreed at earlier meetings.
