Telecommunication to become public utility in Thailand
BANGKOK, September 8 (TNA) - In an attempt to enable people to have widely access to information and, most importantly, boosting the national economy and income of local One Tambon One Product (OTOP) producers, the Thai Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plans to push national telecommunication systems into public utility.
ICT Minister Group Captain Anudith Nakornthap has announced that the Thai government has a policy to provide wireless internet services to every household, like those basic public utilities such as electricity and tap water, in the foreseeable future.
Anudith acknowledged if every household used the Internet, Thai people would be able to obtain necessary information and they would have to pay only a small fee once the plan becomes materialised.
Besides, the ICT minister said, allowing people to have an access to information, telecommunication system would help stimulate the Thai economy and raise income of local OTOP producers nationwide as they would be able to sell their produce through the online system. (TNA)
