Thailand destroys seized drugs
BANGKOK, June 26 (TNA) - Thailand destroyed a total of nearly 6,000 kilograms of confiscated narcotics on Wednesday, marking the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which falls on every June 26.
Thai Deputy Public Health Minister Dr. Chonlanan Srikeaw presided over a ceremony to burn the drugs, through the environmental-friendly and none-reusable pyrolytic incineration method, with the extremely-high temperature of 850 degrees Celsius, at the Bangpa-in Industrial Estate in the central Ayutthaya province.
The 3,363-kilogram-drugs, seized from 2,584 cases worth about 10.09 billion baht, include methamphetamine, crystal meth and heroin, excluding additional 2,603 kilograms of marijuana, worth over 6.5 million baht, confiscated by drug suppression police, which were also burned.
The narcotic destruction, the 42nd of its kind in Thailand so far, was witnessed by a number of invited international diplomats, executives of all agencies concerned and journalists. (TNA)
