Thailand mulls setting up Bioplastic factories
BANGKOK, July 2 (TNA) - Thailand is considering setting up its own bioplastic factories by 2015 in order to meet the growing domestic demand for bioplastics.
Industry Minister M.R. Pongsvas Svasti said Monday he has asked the Plastic Institute of Thailand to conduct a study on Thailand's bioplastic industry to see pros and cons of setting up bioplastic factories in the country.
The move aims to better meet growing domestic demand for bioplastics. The consumption of biodegradable plastic in Thailand is staying at 2,000 tons per year, and is expected to reach 100,000 tons per year in the next three years, according to the industry minister.
Pongsvas added that so far, CARGILL and PTT Global Chemical Plc. have voiced their readiness to invest in the bioplastic industry. (TNA)
