Top Thai envoys told to bring positive changes to AC
BANGKOK, August 10 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha has suggested that top Thai envoys to neighboring countries bring positive changes to the 10-member ASEAN Community (AC) and cope with the changing global situation through their flexible diplomacy.
The prime minister made the suggestions while chairing a plenary meeting with Thai ambassadors and consuls general who are stationed in five neighboring countries in AC, namely Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar and Vietnam, as well as governors of 32 border Thai provinces at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok on Friday.
The prime minister also suggested at the meeting, jointly organized by the Thai Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior in order to drive forward national strategic policies in an integrated aspect, that all tasks of relevant parties need mutual trust to go along hand in hand sincerely with mutual and equal benefits.
Besides, top Thai envoys and governors of border provinces need to learn natures and issues of neighboring countries to create common understanding and objectives in the region, covering proper public understanding.
The Thai prime minister acknowledged sound relations between Thailand and neighboring countries, where common understanding in either bilateral or multilateral trade and investment is also to be created for mutual economic development and growth.
The Thai leader then urged the top Thai envoys and governors of the border provinces to learn and follow up his government's administrative policies and progressive national reforms, covering the promotion of borderless transport and tourism connectivity in the region, and propose their constructive ideas to the government to lift remaining hurdles of the ongoing national reform path.
The Thai prime minister, meanwhile, advised that the top Thai envoys and provincial governors follow up policies of younger generations leaders in many countries and adjust Thailand's means of negotiations for new agreements accordingly, while also paying attention to ideas and proposals raised by the private sector.
