Upgrading Thai restaurants

BANGKOK, March 7 (TNA) - In an attempt to further promote Thai food, especially among foreigners travelling to the kingdom, the Commerce Ministry will present a ‘Thai SELECT’ certificate to winning operators of Thai restaurants. Commerce Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong said the ‘Thai SELECT’ certificate will be presented to Thai restaurants, which have at least 80 per cent of Thai food on the menu, use authentic Thai ingredients, meet Thai food cooking standard and have Thai-style decorations. The minister said the presentation of certificate is aimed at stimulating Thailand’s economy through consuming Thai food as well as upgrading Thai food and restaurants. Operators of Thai restaurants nationwide could now apply for the assessment under the ministry’s criteria. Winners will be promoted through the application of Thailand Tourism Directory. (TNA)
