Analyst Highlights Iran’s Strategic Role In Region

Islamabad, May 8, IRNA – Senior Pakistani defense analyst on Monday highlighted the strategic role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the region. Talking to IRNA, Maj Gen (Retd.) Jamshed Ayaz Khan said that Western states want to create misunderstandings among the regional countries. “Iran has a major role to play for the stability of the region,” he said. Khan added that Iran is a close neighbor of Pakistan and this friendship must grow further. “The stability of Iran is in the interest of Pakistan,” he maintained. Jamshed Ayaz Khan was of the view that US is playing a negative role on the implementation of Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project. He said that Iran and Pakistan should jointly occupy and guard the Indian Ocean. The analyst expressing his opinion said that Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan forms strong triangular force which is capable to counter all conspiracies. He said that West is against the strong relationship among the regional states and the reason of presence of foreign forces in Afghanistan is to create distances between Iran and Afghanistan. Jamshed Ayaz Khan was hopeful about the future of the region adding that strong Iran-Pakistan relation would bring stability and peace in the region. The intellectual said that Western conspiracies to weaken Iran will fail. The analyst opined that Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan must join hands to solve the issues of the region. “We are fully capable to solve our problems,” he said. Jamshed Ayaz Khan retired as a Major General in 2001 after serving for approximately 39 years in the Army including eleven years as a General Officer. He is also the member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, London, the Asia Society, New York and the Rotary Club International./end
