Brazil’s political problems should be resolved without external interference - Russian diplomat
MOSCOW, March 28. /TASS/. Russia stands for solving Brazil’s political problems within the frames of the national constitution and without external interference, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said in an interview with Russia’s Izvestia daily.
"We see that Brazil is living through a difficult period in terms of domestic politics. The most important thing for us is that all problems that might arise are solved within the frames of the constitution, without attempts at destructive foreign interference," he said.
The Russian diplomat stressed that Russia values strategic partnership with Brazil. "It is a country we are cooperating with very productively in various formats, including within the Group of Twenty, BRICS and in many United Nations formats," he said.
In early October 2015, Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court launched an investigation into possible violations in financing the election campaign of President Dilma Rousseff. According to the initiators of the inquiry, the head of state and Vice President Michel Temer used illegal sources of financing of the 2014 election campaign resulting in Rousseff’s taking her second office term. They claim Rousseff used funds received through corruption schemes at Petrobras. On March 17, 2016, the Brazilian parliament’s lower house voted for establishing a commission on Rousseff’s impeachment.
Rousseff’s defense says these accusations are absolutely ungrounded. The president says the impeachment move is a plot threatening state stability.
Mass rallies of both Rousseff’s supporters and opponents have been held across Brazil in the past weeks.
