FM: Implementing Tehran meeting agreements to ensure regional peace

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said here on Tuesday that implementing the ratifications in Tehran Meeting on Afghanistan can ensure peace and stability in region, and development in Afghanistan. Amirabdollahian made the remarks in a meeting with Mohammad Sadeq Khan, the special envoy of the prime minister of Pakistan on Afghanistan affairs, who is visiting Iran. Amirabdollahian in the meeting asked Sadeq Khan to convey the warm greetings of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to the Pakistani president and prime minister, noting that the relations between the two Islamic republics is excellent, and yet they need to be further improved between the two brother and neighboring countries to boost regional security. The Iranian foreign minister said that the Islamic Republic of Iran considers Pakistan's security as its own security, and is ready for boosting security cooperation with Pakistan that will lead to boosting regional security. He said that 4.5 million refugees from Afghanistan are now residing in Iran, of whom more than 1.5 million have immigrated to Iran after the last year coming to power of Taliban there. "Restoration of peace and stability in Afghanistan will lead to the return of the Afghan refugees to their country, and the Islamic Republic of Iran will use all its capacities for the establishment of peace and stability in Afghanistan and the wellbeing of the people in that country," added Amirabdollahian. Mohammad Sadeq Khan, the special envoy of the Pakistani prime minister, for his part, in the meeting elaborated on Pakistan's views on developments in Afghanistan and the prevailing conditions there that have due to the internal and international pressures led to the deterioration of the people's living conditions, arguing that the constructive roles played by regional countries, particularly Iran and Pakistan are very important.
