Former UN Humanitarian Coordinator In Iraq Lambastes SC For Iran Sanctions

Kuala Lumpur, May 13, IRNA – Former United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator Denis Halliday on Saturday criticized US administration for imposing unilateral sanctions on Iran and said that the UN Security Council has passed unlawful sanctions against Iran.
He told IRNA on the sidelines of an International Criminal Court hearing in absentia against former US and UK officials over invasion of Iraq under the pretext of possessing weapons of mass destruction and military action against Afghanistan, Halliday said that Iran is a signatory to Non-Proliferation Treaty and has not violated the terms of NPT but has been targeted by the UN Security Council sanctions.
He said that members of the UN Security Council have resorted to unlawful mechanism by imposing sanctions on Iran.
Halliday said that the US invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan is a black stain in the history of mankind in terms of war crimes and the members of Security Council perpetrated war crimes in Libya.
The former UN Humanitarian Coordinator said that former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi had accepted the western governments demand to stop nuclear program, but, they bombarded a nation to create chaotic condition 'which is still prevailing in Libya.
He said that the White House has imposed unilateral sanctions on Iran to satisfy the Zionist lobby in Washington.
The UN official said that the economic sanctions are detrimental to a nation and the damage sanctions inflict on a nation can be considered in parallel with war crimes or even more harmful than war crimes./ed
