German Peace Movement Urges Lifting Of Iran Sanctions

Berlin, Jan 30, IRNA - A spokesman for the German peace movement called for lifting western sanctions against Iran in order to facilitate diplomatic talks geared at settling the nuclear stalemate. Talking to IRNA in Berlin, Luehr Henken stressed negotiations between the West and Iran were 'the only way.' He urged the West to show 'readiness to lift sanctions to create a talking atmosphere.' Only negotiations can remove mutual concerns, Henken pointed out. There is a need to launch a conference atmosphere over the next weeks in a bid to establish a lasting, peaceful situation in the Near and Middle East, he added. Henken expressed support for third party mediators who are able to resolve differences between the West and Iran over its nuclear program. Germany's peace movement has time and again called for diplomatic negotiations with Iran, saying imposing sanctions and issuing military threats were not helpful to resolve the nuclear impasse./end
