Indian Religious Scholar Condemns Sanctions Against Iran

New Delhi, Dec 8, IRNA – A prominent Indian religious scholar Friday condemned West's sanctions against Iran. Maulana Mufti M. Mukarram Ahmed, In his Friday sermon, at the historical Fatehpuri Masjid in Delhi, condemned the decision of American Senate which passed some more sanctions against Iran. He appealed the United Nations to withdraw those illegal sanctions because Tehran had assured UN that the former's nuclear program was for civilian purposes and not for nuclear destructive weapons. The Friday Prayer leader also welcomed the UN General Assembly decision to recognized Palestine as a non-member observer state. “Indeed it is a historic victory”, Mukarram Ahmed said. He also greeted the people and government of Palestine on the occasion and hoped that the victory would be fruit-fulled in the future. Mukarram Ahmed condemned US and Israel and their allies who opposed the resolution or those countries that were absent. The scholar thanked all supporting countries including India who backed Palestinians and voted in their favor. Mukarram also appealed the Indian Govt. to pressurizing Israel not to disturb the peace of the region. Stressing that the Palestinians had the support of majority of the UN countries, the scholar hoped that they would get justice and support in the Universal Court of Law and Justice too./end
