Iran-G5+1 To Resume Talks

Khorramabad, July 11, IRNA -- Iran and Group 5+1 will resume nuclear talks in near future, Chairman of the Majlis Commission on National Security and Foreign Policy Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Tuesday. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the national gathering on “Sense of Security”, he said Iran has made it clear that nuclear talks will continue if the economic sanctions be lifted. Iranian Majlis believes that lifting economic sanctions is the prerequisite for continuation of nuclear talks, he said. Referring to Iran-Group 5+1 negotiations at expert level held in Moscow last week, he said the two sides held some 16 hours of fruitful talks where the Iranian side played very well. The Iranian team adequately defined Iran’s strategies based on Non-Proliferation Treaty as well as the Charter of the International Atomic Energy Agency, he said. If the US does not create any problems, the next rounds of talks will be held with top officials which can help them reach final agreement, he said. The exact date of talks has not been specified yet, he said. In the upcoming talks, Iran’s demand on enrichment of uranium will remain in place without any change, he pointed out. "Enrichment of uranium enshrined by NPT as a right for every member state is regarded as a irreversible point for Iran." Iran insists on its NPT rights and if required, may upgrade 20 percent level of uranium enrichment with much higher degree, Boroujerdi underlined. On Syrian developments, he said Syrian president has successfully passed tough situation and the country moves forward to stability. On role of Iran in Syrian developments, he said Iran has played a key role to this end as Geneva talks failed without Iran’s presence./end
