Iranian cartoonists win top prizes at Chinese contest

TEHRAN,Sept.3(MNA) -- Three Iranian cartoonists have won top prizes at the 2012 International Beggar Cartoon Contest of China, the website of the contest announced last week. Nasrin Sheikhi won the best caricature prize, and Salam Mohammadi and Yusef Alimohammadi won two special prizes of the contest. The first special prize went to Raul Alfonso Grisales from Colombia. In addition, first prize of the contest went to Sunnerberg Constantin Cost from Belgium, and the second prize went to David Vela from Spain. Angel Boligan from Mexico, Figueroa Turcios from Spain, and Xia Lichuan-China were some of the jury members of the contest this year. The contest has been organized by the 4th Red Man International Humor Art Biennial of China. Organizers of the biennial will announce the winners in January 2013. Red Man Art has also organized an exhibition of cartoons about Iran’s recent earthquake in East Azarbaijan, in which works by Iranian and several non-Iranian cartoonists have been put on show. Works by Ehsan Ganji, Jamal Rahmati, Alireza Pakdel from Iran as well as Hong Xue from China and Jitet Koestana from Indonesia are on display in this section.
