Iranian Peace Plan Calls For Syrian Warring Parties To Opt For Democratic Process
Tehran, Dec 18, IRNA – Iran's former Ambassador to Jordan Mohammad Irani said on Monday that Iranian six-point peace plan calls for Syrian warring parties to opt for democratic process.
Iran has called for a halt to armed conflict and bloodshed in Syria and form national reconciliation committee under supervision of the United Nations to make arrangements for free and fair elections for transition of power democratically and draft new Constitution to be put to referendum.
Speaking to IRNA, he said that as long as the opposition groups evade to resolve their dispute through democratic means with the Syrian government; the Syrian crisis will remain unresolved.
He said that the initiative put forward by the Islamic Republic of Iran prevents intervention of aliens in Syria and seeks to resolve the dispute with reliance on Syrian people.
"If Syrian people have grievances about corruption and discrimination in the country, they should form their own system of government by going to ballot boxes," he said.
The problem is that all Syrian opposition groups are not inside the country and some are now residing abroad, he said.
The Syrian opposition groups residing aboard seek to topple the Syrian government with reliance on financial and military support extended by the aliens, he said.
The opposition groups outside Syria pay no attention to the legitimate rights of Syrian people, he said.
It is the Syrian people who should make decision on their fate, Irani said.
He said that the Islamic Republic of Iran forwarded the six-point initiative to Russia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the UN secretary general's envoy on Syria Lakhdad Brahimi./end
