Moving photos of Azerbaijani IDPs featured in Foreign Policy magazine

Baku, July 16 (AzerTAc). The US-based Foreign Policy magazine, one of the one world’s leading print and online current affairs journals, has featured Ed Kashi’s moving photographs of Azerbaijani Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and refugees in its current issue. The magazine has an estimated 3.5 million online monthly readers. The photographs were the result of the Unresolved Dreams project, organised by The European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS). About one million IDPs and refugees are the ongoing casualties of the unresolved Armenian–Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. In 2012, Ed visited Azerbaijan to capture the everyday lives of some of the IDPs and refugees in four of the camps. In the Foreign Policy article published in the Inbox section, which focuses on outstanding examples of photojournalism, it states: “Today, Nagorno-Karabakh is occupied by Armenian forces. Military occupation and casualties, however, are far from the only consequences of the conflict. Azerbaijan has one of the world’s highest per capita numbers of refugees and IDPs.” The photographs published in Foreign Policy are just five of the 50 images currently touring the cities where TEAS has offices. The entire Unresolved Dreams exhibition has already been shown in London and Paris, and will travel to Berlin, Brussels and Istanbul in the near future. New York-based Ed Kashi has spent the last 30 years photographing the human impact of conflict around the world. He is the Co-Founder of the VII Photo Agency, and his work has been published in the National Geographic, Newsweek, Time and The New York Times, amongst other leading publications. Ed was the winner of the World Press Photo competition in 2011, and in 2010 won both the UNICEF Photo of the Year award and the Prize Pictet, a global photographic prize. His seven books of photographs have been distributed across the world, and Photojournalism – his latest publication – is the definitive reference book on the subject.
