MP Calls For Parliament's Closed-door Session To Examine President's Remarks

Tehran, Dec 24, IRNA -- Member of Parliament Ahmad Tavakoli on Sunday criticized the remarks made by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on a TV program marking the second anniversary of subsidies plan. During the program, the president defended adequate implementation of the direct subsidies law. Responding to criticism of the parliament about violating timeline of the direct subsidies law, the president acknowledged that the legislature had envisaged five-year period for executing the subsidies law, but, the government deemed it convenient to implement the law in two years. Tavakoli said that the president exceeded boundaries of his authority in the course of implementing the direct subsidies law and in addition he wants extra authority beyond the context of the Constitution envisaged for the chief executive. Tavakoli said that parts of president's remarks had no consistency with constitution and that the president seek elimination of parliament from the process of decision making. The MPs are critical of the government's performance and collected signature to impeach the president for his failure to handle national economy. The president said that the difficulties in the economic sector emanated from the US sanctions. Tavakoli said that the president has called for federal economic management which runs counter with the Constitution./end
