MP: Islamic Countries Should Hold Extraordinary Session On Massacre Of Myanmar Muslims

Tehran, July 23, IRNA – An Iranian parliamentarian called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to hold an extraordinary session on the massacre of Muslims in Myanmar. In an interview with IRNA on Monday, Ali Davatgari, who is a member of the Majlis’ National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said the Islamic countries always refer to Iran as a defender of oppressed people so the Foreign Ministry should give top priority to measures to stop massacre of Muslims in Myanmar. He said the brutal massacre of Muslim people in Myanmar is taking place amid inaction and silence of the countries who are the so-called advocates of human rights but they take measures under the human rights pretext whenever their own interests are threatened. The parliamentarian stressed that the Islamic countries should take an identical stand to condemn crimes committed against humanity. He said crime against humanity is among the charges the United Nations Security Council is committed to examine in its special sessions./end
