My presidential plans are within framework of Islamic system:Iran`s Shariatmadari
TEHRAN,April 9(MNA) – Presidential candidate Mohammad Shariatmadari has said that candidates should not draw up “revolutionary” plans for their term in office, emphasizing that his plans are within the frameworks of the Islamic system.
In an interview with the Mehr News Agency published on Monday, Shariatmadari talked about his presidential plans and also elaborated on his views on other candidates.
Shariatmadari was former commerce minister in the former pro-reform president Mohammad Khatami’s administration. He is currently a foreign policy advisor to the Supreme Leader.
On his view on the current political atmosphere in the country, he said the atmosphere for presidential election has not warmed up yet due to the incidents that followed the 2009 presidential election which led to an isolation of political groups.
On the possible candidacy of former president Mohammad Khatami in the election, he said, “In condition the charismatic figures of the establishment such as Mr. Hashemi Rafsanjani, Nateq Nouri, Mohammad Khatami, and Hassan Khomeini announce their candidacy in the election, I will withdraw my candidacy in favor of them... so in their absence I will stay in the presidential contest.”
Asked whether he is known as an economic candidate or a political one, he said that he has spent a considerable part of his life studying national economic issues, adding that as economic issues are associated with foreign relations, he has some experiences in this regard as well.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Shariatmadari said that prior to the election he would announce his policy towards key subjects such as the country’s cultural and political issues which fall within the ambit of the administration, and not beyond that.
Elsewhere he said, “If I would be qualified for the president and gain the people’s trust, I will definitely appoint competent people to various posts.”
Elsewhere he requested all his supporters, who believe that he can serve the people, to financially support him to conduct his electoral campaigns. He added that at a proper time he would announce his official number account to absorb funds.
