No Plans Yet To Upgrade UK Ties To Ambassador Level: Takhte-Ravanchi

Berlin, June 18, IRNA -- Iranˈs Deputy Foreign Minister for Euro-American Affairs Majid Takhte-Ravanchi stressed there were no plans yet to upgrade ties with England to an ambassadorial level. Talking to media representatives in Vienna on Tuesday, Takhte-Ravanchi said, ˈAs to when we will decide to change the non-resident charge daffaires to a resident charge dˈaffaires and then to an ambassador, depends on the decisions of both sides.ˈ He stressed that at this point of time, relations between Tehran and London would be only on a non-resident charge dˈaffairesˈ level. Takhte-Ravanchi meanwhile reiterated that exchanging ambassadors between the two countries was not on the agenda for now. The Iranian diplomat said that while the Iranian embassy in London had already reopened, the British diplomatic mission in Tehran needed more time to resume its diplomatic services. Takhte-Ravanchi also said that Sweden was no longer representing the interests of England in Iran./end
