OIC condemns military coup in Mali

ANKARA (AA) - March 22, 2012 - The secretary general of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Thursday expressed his condemnation and extreme shock for the military coup in Mali, his office said.  Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu expressed his condemnation and extreme shock for the military coup that took place in Mali against the President Ahmed Tomani Toure. The secretary general stated that the OIC principled position in such cases was to remind of the importance of safeguarding the constitutional legitimacy that comes through elections in Member States, and of solving problems through dialogue. In the statement, Ihsanoglu called the coup's leaders to respect democracy and enable the Malian people, at the earliest, to express its free will vis-à-vis the situation in the country, to solve the country's outstanding problems through dialogue, and to fully respect human rights.​
