President Off To Cairo To Attend OIC Summit

Tehran, Feb 5, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, heading a high-ranking delegation, left here Tuesday for Cairo, Egypt, to participate in the 12th Summit of Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC). As the current rotating president of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Ahmadinejad has been invited to the summit by his Egyptian counterpart Mohamed Mursi. The 12th OIC Summit is to review major issues concerning the World of Islam as well as crises in certain Islamic states such as Syria and Bahrain. The Islamic Republic of Iran, which stresses consolidation of solidarity among Muslim states, is to express its points of view and present suggestions for settling the crises in the World of Islam. President Ahmadinejad is scheduled to hold talks with his Egyptian counterpart and other top officials of the country on the issues of mutual interests. He will also meet leaders of a number of OIC member countries. The Islamic Republic of Iran is a founder of the OIC and plays an active role in the organization. The two-day OIC Summit will start on February 6./end
