Rohani: Next Government Will Be Accountable

Tehran, Aug 7, IRNA – President Hassan Rohani said that the next government will be accountable and will act transparently. Addressing the first press conference since he officially took office, he added that his government is hopeful of the nations backing which its regard as a valuable asset. The government will never be able to achieve its objectives without national support and the media can help forge excellent relationship between the government and the people, he said. After presidential election on June 24, I shouldered two basic duties. First was policy-making for the government of prudence and hope. To this end, committees and working groups were formed and finally a program was drawn up which was submitted to Majlis during swearing-in ceremony, he said. He said that the second responsibility was appointing relevant executive teams for identifying and introducing eligible individuals for the cabinet. Efforts were made to introduce the cabinet members to Majlis to hold deliberations for vote of confidence, Rohani said. The president further noted that the government will have cooperation with Majlis and Judiciary. Referring to the presence of 55 dignitaries from 55 countries in the swearing-in ceremony, Rohani said, Most of the leaders opined during the meetings that Iranian presidential election created happiness and interest among our nation and it was important to me. Foreign dignitaries said that the presidential election revived the hopes of peace and stability in the region, Rohani said, noting that this indicates the glory of the Iranian nation and influence in the region and world. Elsewhere in his remarks, he noted that morality and law constitute the basic foundations of the moderate government. Rohani won Iran’s June 14 presidential election with 50.7 percent of a total of 36, 704, 156 ballots. The voter turnout in the election was 72.7 percent.
