Russia, Turkey, Germany and France may hold new summit on Syria soon - Erdogan

ANKARA, April 10. /TASS/. Russia, Turkey, Germany and France may hold a new summit on the Syrian settlement in the near future, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters shortly after his visit to Moscow, where he held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to Erdogan, French President Emmanuel Macron recently called with such a demand. "Putin also welcomes the idea [of holding the quartet summit]," the Turkish president was quoted by the Daily Sabah newspaper as saying. The Turkish leader noted that for holding the summit in this format there is the need to achieve progress on setting up Syria’s constitutional committee. On October 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel held four-way talks on Syria in Istanbul. The three-hour summit, which was held for the first time in this format, confirmed that the sides call for a political and diplomatic resolution to the Syria conflict. Moreover, the four leaders urged to increase humanitarian aid to the Syrians, including for the reconstruction of the damaged infrastructure. Read more
