Russian, Algerian president express support to ceasefire in Libya - Kremlin

MOSCOW, July 13. /TASS/. Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria have called for the continuation of the intra-Libyan dialogue to settle the crisis in that country, the Kremlin press service said on Monday after their telephone conversation. "The presidents exchanged views on the problems of Libyan settlement. The leaders spoke in support of the ceasefire and resumption of the intra-Libyan dialogue in line with the resolutions of the January 2020 Berlin conference on Libya and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2510 that fixed them," the Kremlin press service said. "Special focus was made on the necessity to consolidate international efforts towards political and diplomatic settlement of the crisis in Libya." Libyan settlement was also among the topics of Putin’s telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, earlier on Monday. The final document of the Berlin conference on Libyan settlement that was held in early 2020 calls for a ceasefire in that country. The participants undertook to refrain from interfering into Libya’s affairs and suggested a united government be formed in that country that would begin reforms to restore the statehood that was destroyed by NATO’s intervention almost ten years ago.
