Safavi: Talks With Enemies Should Be Based On Equal Standing

Tehran, Sept 24, IRNA - Advisor to Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Major-General Yahya Rahim Safavi said on Monday that talks with the enemies should be based on equal standing adding that the armed forces are to fully back the government. He acknowledged that President Hassan Rohani won presidential election and support of the nation and that of the Supreme Leader. Iran is regarded as a regional power and the enemies should witness the power of national solidarity, he said. He advised the government that the enemies should be dealt with identical stand. Safavi said that the armed forces are responsible to guarantee national security. On the economic problems, he said, I hope the new government could successfully overcome economic, cultural and political problems. Iran is not to initiate any military conflict as Iranian strategic doctrine is not offensive but preventive and deterrent, he said. “We seek restoration of peace and tranquility in the region and hate war as military confrontations inflict heavy damages to world nations and countries,” he said. He said that the Americans and Zionists try to impose war on Islamic nations. Iranian nation, government and the Supreme Leader are to restoration of peace in the region as well as in the globe, Safavi said. The Americans had a humiliating defeat in Iraq and Afghanistan and the Zionists also experienced two humiliating defeats in 33-day war against Lebanese Hezbollah and 22-day war against Palestinians living in Gaza, he said adding that how they can enter into a war with a big nation like Iran. “We advise the countries in the region to establish a close relations with Iran as they mind their security, peace, and economic development,” he said./end
