Supreme Leader praises success of Iranian weightlifting team

TEHRAN, May 2 (MNA) – The Supreme Leader issued a statement on Tuesday praising the success of the Iranian team in the 2012 Asian Weightlifting Championship. “I thank you for making the Iranian nation happy,” Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said. In the last day of the competitions, Iran’s Behdad Salimi snatched the gold medal in the super heavyweight class. The two-time world championship gold medalist finished in the first place by lifting 206 kg in snatch , 245kg in clean and jerk and 451 in total. In this category, Sajjad Anoushiravani - also from Iran – claimed the bronze medal with a total of 431kg. Iran claimed the title with 501 points, followed by South Korea and Kazakhstan with 500 and 441 points respectively.
