Thai govt to invest over 1.9 trillion baht on transport infrastructures

BANGKOK, March 28 (TNA) - The Thai government has decided to invest more than 1.9 trillion baht on developing basic transport infrastructure projects in Thailand during an eight-year plan, starting from 2015, said a deputy government spokesman. Maj.Gen.Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the decision was made during Friday’s mobile cabinet meeting, held in Hua Hin resort, following a proposal made by Transport Ministry. Under the plan, 59 urgent transport development programmes will be implemented this year with a total investment cost of about 847.7 billion baht, said Maj. Gen. Sansern. The 59 development programmes include construction of transportation networks to cater the ASEAN Economic Community, due to be implemented at end-2015, for the special economic zones, and projects to improve the livelihood of the people in travelling and goods transportation.The Finance Ministry was assigned to locate funding sources for the projects, he said.
