Top Pakistani, ISAF Commanders Discuss Border Coordination

Islamabad, July 3, IRNA – Senior Pakistani and International Security and Assistance Force (ISAF) commanders Tuesday discussed “matters of mutual interest with particular focus on border coordination measuresˈ, the military said. An army statement said that General Joseph E. Dunford, ISAF Commander called on Pakistanˈs Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani which was described as a routine coordination visit. The statement did not give more details about the talks. Sources said that the current situation in Afghanistan, particularly the peace process, also came under discussion. Matters relating to the NATO withdrawal were also reviewed, the sources added. The meeting held at a time when the Qatar peace process faces a deadlock and relationship between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which is a key to the elusive peace, is tense over Kabul’s allegation that Islamabad is not cooperating in the reconciliation process. Afghan officials have criticized Pakistan for its proposal of power sharing proposal with the Afghan Taliban. Islamabad rejected the claim and said it has not floated any such idea and it wants to facilitate the peace process./end
